General Information About Vanuatu

ALCOHOL

The sale of alcohol is prohibited in shops and supermarkets from Saturday midday to Monday morning and on public holidays. This does not apply to bars and restaurants.

ATMS & MONEY EXCHANGE

The local currency in Vanuatu is the Vatu. Banks (ANZ, BSP, BRED, NBV) are located downtown and you will see ATMs at various points around the town. The banks close at 3.30pm on Monday to Friday and are closed Saturday and Sunday. Goodies and Seven-Eleven money changers are located in the main street downtown and offers competitive rates. They are open 7 days a week (half days over the weekends). Reception does not exchange currencies but can loan you the bus fare to get to town.

BUSES & TAXIS

Public transport is frequent and can be flagged down right in front of the resort. Buses will have a red “B” on their number plates and taxis will have a red “T” on their number plate. The bus fare into town is 150 vatu per person. There are no bus stops - you just flag down a bus and tell the bus driver where you want to be dropped off within Port Vila. When you flag down the bus drivers, ask them if they are driving in the direction you want to go – as they may have other passengers going in a different direction! Note that taxis do not have fare meters - so you will have to negotiate a price prior to getting in the taxi.

Buses & Taxis should be used for transportation only – and not for tours - as they do not have any accreditation or insurance. We recommend that you book your tours at Reception from accredited tour operators.

ELECTRICITY

The electrical supply is 240v. Any American or European electrical devices using 110 volts will be damaged if used without the correct transformer.

MARKET & SUPERMARKETS

The fruit & vegetable market in town is open day and night except from Saturday midday to Monday morning. Au Bon Marche Nambatu is the largest supermarket in Port Vila and is only a 5 minute drive away towards town. It is open 7 days a week.

WATER SUPPLY

Port Vila and Pango area water is safe to drink, however it does contain a high level of calcium. Bottled water is available from our shop at Reception.

Resort Facilities & Services

AIR-CONDITIONING

All our rooms are equipped with air conditioning; you can adjust the temperature with the remote control located on the wall close to your bed or the door.

Make sure you keep it on the "cool" mode (snow flake symbol). Air-conditioning is included in your room rate but please be mindful of the environment. For effective use: keep all the windows and doors closed when using the airconditioner and turn it off when you leave the room. Keep the temperature above 20 degrees as a lower temperature could overheat the compressor.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS

Airport transfers can be arranged at Reception with a taxi or with an accredited airport transfer company. Taxi bookings made at Reception follow the fixed airport fee established by the Port Vila Efate Land Transport Association. BABYSITTING

BABYSITTING

If you need a babysitter for a day or an evening, please ask at Reception giving us 24 hours notice and we will organise if for you. The cost will be charged to your room for you to settle at check out.

Our hourly rate per babysitter is 500 vatu per child (+250 per extra child). If our on-site babysitter is not available, transportation will be at the guests cost.

BARBECUE

There is a covered outdoor barbecue area close to the pool. Before use, you will need to switch on the valve under the counter and leave it on 5 minutes to make sure the grill is hot. After use, please turn off the valve prior to leaving. Please feel free to use it and enjoy Vanuatu’s famous organic beef!

Please note that the barbecue area closes at 9pm to ensure a quiet stay for all our guests.

BEACH & BATH TOWELS

Bath towels

As we care for the environment, please hang towels on the towel rail if you are happy to re-use them. Please place towels on the floor if you wish them replaced.

Beach towels

The striped beach towels are complimentary and are available in your room. If you require new ones, place towels on the bathroom floor or ask any employee at the resort or inform Reception. Each non-returned towel will be charged 2,500 vatu at check out.

Drying racks

There are foldable drying racks inside the room for wet laundry and bathing suits.

BOOKS & DVD

There are books to borrow or exchange and DVDs to hire at Reception.

BUILDING SAFETY

Nasama Resort is built to the strictest safety regulations and is cyclone and earthquake approved. In case of a cyclone warning, you will be notified by management. All windows and doors will be boarded and management or security will move you to a safe area.

Should there be an earthquake, please exit the room immediately and head to an open space at ground level. In the case of a strong earthquake with a tsunami warning, the management or security will move you to higher ground across the road from the resort.

Check-in Time: 2pm
Check-out Time: 10am

Late arrivals or check-ins after hours can be pre-arranged and accommodated.

Late check-outs can be arranged with Reception subject to availability. If the room is not booked, you can check-out up to 12 noon at no additional charge.

After 12 noon, an hourly rate of 1,250 vatu applies.

CREDIT CARDS

The resort accepts Visa and Mastercard only. A bank charge of 3.5% will be applied to all credit card payments and refunds.

DINING AT CAFÉ VILA

Savor the delicious meals and cocktails on offer at Café Vila, Nasama Resort’s own restaurant and bar! The menu is a fusion of East and West cuisines, using fresh local organic meat, seafood, fruit and vegetables. Enjoy a hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner; or have us pack salads and sandwiches to go for your daily activities.

From the bar, sample coconut inspired cocktails and take the opportunity to socialise with other guests and local residents in a friendly and relaxed tropical setting.

You can order your food to take away or have it delivered to your room. Room service fee is 500 vatu.

As well as Café Vila, there are 30 other restaurants in Port Vila to choose from. More information can be obtained from Reception.

DUVETS

Duvets are stored on the shelves in the wardrobe. Please contact Reception if more duvets are required.

HOUSEKEEPING

We provide daily housekeeping. The bed linen is changed every 3 days. Please ask the housekeepers or Reception for top ups of any bathroom items in your room - or if you need assistance regarding housekeeping matters. The complimentary kitchen welcome pack (milk, coffee, tea, salt, sugar, oil) is provided in your apartment at check-in. You can purchase more of these items from Reception or the nearest supermarkets.

HOT WATER

The resort uses solar panels to heat the water. On a cloudy day, electric boosters are turned on. If you think your water is not hot enough, please let one of our staff know and we will turn on the electric booster again. This will provide you with hot water within 30 minutes.

INTERNET

We provide free wireless internet throughout the resort including your apartment patio and living area. You will notice aerials on the beach area and on the roof of our main buildings. If you are in direct line of sight to one of these aerials, your signal will be stronger. The WiFi network enables you to browse the web and email and use social apps (up & downloading, streaming, file exchanges and other flux are restricted).

KAYAKS

Kayaks are complimentary but only useable when there is no surf on the outside reef i.e. when there is no surf breaking on the reef in front of the resort.

For safety reasons, and also to protect the reef, kayaking is only allowed within 3 hours before or after high tide and depending on weather conditions. Please follow the instructions given by Reception and the Security Guard in charge of the kayaks.

It is safer to paddle left towards Erakor Island. We recommend that you do not paddle to the right as there are currents, surf, dangerous coral and shallow reefs. An enjoyable kayak trip is across to Erakor Island and Second Lagoon.

Safety jackets are mandatory and available from Reception.

KEYS

Please keep your room key safe and secure at all times. At check-out, please give your key to Reception or leave it on the kitchen bench in your room if you have an early morning departure. If you lose your key, there will be a small charge to replace it.

LAUNDRY

Self service laundries are ocated on the ground floor in Building 1. Please see Reception for location, tokens and laundry detergent (a small fee applies). Washing machines and dryers are installed in each 2 bedroom apartment.

MASSAGES & TREATMENTS

Enjoy a relaxing volcanic hot rocks massage at our beach faré to the sound of the waves! You will find more information about massages, facials, pedicures and manicures in the following pages or at Reception.

PHONE & COMMUNICATION

Buy a local sim card

If your mobile phone is unlocked, you can buy a prepaid SIM card from Reception. Sim card costs only 500 vatu and includes 400 vatu credit. You can buy additional credit with prepaid cards from 100 vatu to 1000 vatu.

Hire a mobile phone

You can hire for your entire stay a mobile phone from Reception. It is a fixed fee of 500 vatu, then refill with prepaid cards from 100 vatu to 1000 vatu as it goes.

POOLS

The 2 swimming pools are open daily from 7.30am to 9pm. Please note that there is no lifeguard on duty. Children under 12 years must be supervised at all times. Jumping or diving into the pool is not permitted. Please refrain from standing or walking on the edge of the pool.

Please also note that for your safety, drinking glasses from the apartments and glass bottles are not allowed around the pool area and in the pool. Plastic glasses are available at the restaurant.

Nasama Resort will not be liable for any accident or injury in or around the pool.

SAFES & PERSONAL VALUABLES

You can either store your valuables in the safe at Reception or in your apartment. If your apartment safe door is closed at check-in, please inform Reception and we will open the door for you to set-up your private code.

Please look after your valuables and personal property. Nasama Resort will not be held liable for any items lost from your apartment, apartment safe or around the resort.

SECURITY

There is 24-hour security at the resort. If you accidently lock yourself out of the room or need assistance flagging down a bus or moving your luggage, please see one of our security staff or contact Reception.

SEPTIC SYSTEM

All of Vanuatu is on a septic system. Please do not flush any foreign material down the toilet as it will cause a blockage.

SHOP

There is a small selection of items for sale at Reception including snacks, soft drinks, toiletries, umbrellas, mobile SIM cards and mobile refill cards.

SNORKELLING & SWIMMING IN THE OCEAN

The rock pool in front of the resort is free of currents and rips. Please note that the water level is overhead at high tide.

There is good snorkelling about 25-30 metres offshore with a variety of tropical coral and fish. It is easier to get there on a full tide as you can swim out. Reef shoes are available at Reception if walking on the rocks in low tide is hard on your feet. On the other side of the bay in front of Erakor Island is a magnificent coral reef and is only a short kayak ride away.

Enjoy the colours of this magnificent world and help us protect it! Similar to fish life, coral is also a live species, so please do not try to touch them or make them move as they will break off. Snorkelling equipment can be hired at Reception for 500 vatu per ½ day.

Please look after your fins on the sharp coral and rinse the equipment with fresh water after use.

TOURS

Our Tour Desk is located at our Reception. Our friendly staff is available to make suggestions and bookings. There is plenty to do in Vanuatu, from round the island tours, snorkelling, cruise expeditions, diving, kayaking, adventure or cultural tours. Most operators will pick up from the resort.

TV, DVD PLAYER & SOUND

We are hooked up to satellite TV and have six channels. Please note that the weather can sometimes cause the channel reception to fluctuate. Please contact Reception if the picture is not clear or if you wish to watch a particular channel.

  • The longer remote is for the TV and the shorter remote is for the DVD player.
  • Some rooms also have a remote control for the sound. You will need to select "Satellite/TV" on the sound system to watch the TV.
DVD
  • Using the TV/Video remote, press the button on top left hand side, scroll down to "Video 1" or "Video 2" (depending on the room). Press select. Then use the shorter remote to load and play the DVD.
  • Some rooms also have a remote control for the sound. You will need to press the button "Video/DVD" on the left hand side of the monitor.

WIND FREE AREA

On windy days, the best places to relax are around the children's pool or on the left hand side of the beach close to the bamboo fence. These areas are protected from the wind. For wind free locations outside the resort, ask our Reception and they will suggest places according to the weather forecasts.
